Hanging Herb Garden

The most concerning thing when growing edibles in Hawaii is Rat Lung Worm disease. Most lettuce, herbs and leafy greens are on the top of the list for slug contamination (not to mention the slugs also eat the leaves of these plants). An herb garden is a must-have for homesteading, but it is unusable if grown on the ground. A hanging herb garden solves the slug problem. Added bonus is having each herb in it’s own pot, so it won’t spread and take over a shared herb garden space – Basil, I’m looking at you!

The pots I used were at Home Depot, $2.5 each. They are Orchid Pots, so there are three holes already fashioned, perfect for stringing up. The metal rings were at the craft store or on amazon.
