Yeah, I wouldn’t expect Jon Stewart to fact check any more than does the NY Times. As I’ve pointed out, they misreported and did not talk to all the players involved in the Murphy case. Makes me mad when the media picks up on these stories and just accepts them as “gospel.”
I must agree with Stewart though on Fr. Cantalamessa’s comparison of all this to anti-Semitism. Holy crap how off base can one be? The church is suffering consequences today due to the rape and abuse of children that it committed and ignored for years. How that is comparable to the holocaust is just absurd and a ridiculous, insensitive statement.
The Pope has been and still is trying to clean this mess up. I’m not sure he can do it with the Bishops he has in place and while he has to clean up for comments made by his own Vatican priests.

The specific details of these instances are hardly relevant, Stewart had a point when he said any other organization doing anything similiar to this would be done. Imagine of the Boy Scouts of America hd widespeard sex abuse coverups. They would dissapear as an organization overnight. Instead of us granting allowances to the Catholic church because they are a religion we should be doubly hard on them because of it.
