Hypothetical:
If you are a religious believer, play a hypothetical game with me. Pretend for a moment that in your religious learning, be it as a child or on your own accord, you were taught that Jack was a real biblical character that climbed a beanstalk, learned a good parable or two in the clouds and came down and fed his family with beans that a god had given him while in the clouds. At the same time, you were told that the story of Adam and Eve with the talking snake and the story of Johnah and the Whale with the benevolent fish monster were Disney movies that some creative minds in Hollywood had dreamed up and put into children’s fantasy films.
Now, if you ‘believed’ these hypothetical situations as they were told to you along with all the other stories in the bible, would you be able to tell the ‘fake’ bible story apart from the ‘real’ ones? Contrarily, would you then be convinced if someone told you that the Disney movie stories were actually part of the bible? …or would it all start to become a messy, fantasy blur…. ?
