Pagan Jesus?

Most Christians would be shocked to know that thousands of years before the story of Jesus arose, there long existed the story of Horus, an Egyptian god. Jesus’ story parallels that of Horus.

Horus was said to have been born of a virgin and worshiped by shepherds at his birth on December 25th. Horus’ birth was announced by a star and he was visited by wise men from ‘the east’. He was a child teacher in the temple and was baptized by “Anup the Baptizer” when he was thirty years old. He had twelve disciples and performed miracles such as feeding bread to the multitude and walking on water. He raised one man, El-Azar-us, from the dead.

Horus also had titles such as the “way, the truth, the light, the Messiah, God’s anointed Son, the Son of Man, the good shepherd, the lamb of God, the Word, the Morning Star, the light of the world.” The adoration of the Virgin and Child is connected with both the adoration of Isis and the infant Horus and the adoration of Mary and infant Jesus. In the catacombs at Rome are pictures of the baby Horus being held by the virgin mother Isis, the original “Madonna and Child.”

What a coincience that the story of Jesus’ life so closely parallels that of an Egyptian prince-god. . . or is it?
Zeus isn’t real.
Santa isn’t real.
The Easter bunny isn’t real.
Talking snakes in the garden of eden aren’t real.
The earth wasn’t made in 7 days.
Moses heard ‘voices’ in his head (those people today are clinically psyco)
Jesus’ story copies that of an ancient pagan god…

You do the thinking. Religion offers easy answers to difficult questions and difficult realities of life. To me, it is simply a cop-out. Instead of taking the easy way out, I chose to do some research, expand my mind and look beyond the box of religion. A recent poll showed that 16% of Americans are non-theists. That is a larger minority than any other minority: blacks, homosexuals and the NRA included: groups that all have a large lobby voice in American politics. It is time for non-theists to stand up to religion and stop it from ruining the world with its crusades, bickering, bombing and warring. We are a major minority. And who knows how many more are sitting in the pews questioning and searching for real answers, not fairy tales, fear mongering, and what amounts to hear-say.

Happy Solstice!
